Flows of Student Mobility in the Houston Region

Each year, tens of thousands of students in the Houston region switch schools, and, in doing so, many of them also switch districts. In this series of research briefs, HERC examines the between district mobility of students from the perspective of 10 public school districts in the Houston area. Each brief examines the number of mobile students coming into a district, leaving a district, and the resulting net mobility between the focal districts and other Houston area districts. Results highlight the regional character of student mobility and the balance that often exists in the number of students going back and forth between school districts.
